CHANGES ON MARRIAGE REGISTRATIONS
1. Regain the maiden surname
Women who have concluded a valid marriage in accordance with the law in force at the time of the conclusion, before 18/2/1983, may regain their maiden surname, by appearing in person and submitting a solemn declaration1 at the Special Civil Registry or before the Greek Consular Authority which has the jurisdiction over her place of residence abroad.
2. Addition of the spouse’s surname
In order to add the spouse’s surname, a joint declaration of both spouses is required before the Special Civil Registry Section or the competent Greek Consular Authority, if the spouses reside abroad.
Adding the spouse’s surname is not possible when at least one of the spouses was a foreigner at the time of the conclusion of the marriage and the surname of the spouses was decided on the basis of article 14 of the Civil Code in force at the time of the conclusion of the marriage in accordance with the substantive foreign law(not Greek law
3. Other changes
Changes taking place after the execution of the marriage registration document due to marriage annulment, addition or change of a name, surname, citizenship or religion are registered on the marriage registration document within one month of the date the change took place.
– A valid identification document or passport is necessary.
– FEE Receipts of fee paid to the Public Financial Service (Δ.Ο.Υ) or from eparavolo https://www1.gsis.gr/sgsisapps/eparavolo/public/welcome.htm
– No fee is required if the birth is declared within the first 90 days.
– if the registration takes place between the 90th and 180th day a fee of 5.40 euro is required to be paid at the Public Financial Service (Δ.Ο.Υ) or the fee can be paid through eparavolo code number 3826 for 5.40 Euros.
– if the registration takes place after 180th day , a fee 15.60 euro is required to be paid at the Public Financial Service (Δ.Ο.Υ) or the fee can be paid through eparavolo code number 3827 for 15.60 Euros.
It is declared by a) the spouses b) by a duly authorized third party by means of notarized Special Power of Attorney c) by a lawyer duly authorized; by means of notarized Special Power of Attorney.
