Since January 2015 he has been appointed Minister of Interior and Administrative Reconstruction by the coalition government of SYRIZA and ANEL political parties and is also responsible for defining the policy of the Ministry within the framework of the decisions made by the Minister’s Cabinet and other collective organs of the Government as well as for coordinating the implementation of this policy.

Nikos Voutsis was born in 1951. He graduated from the Experimental School of the University of Athens and from the School of Civil Engineering of the National Technical University (NTUA). He has a good command of the German language.

He worked as a civil engineer on a self –employed basis.

In May and June 2012, he was firstly elected MP for SYRIZA in Athens A’ constituency and in the 2015 elections he was re-elected. He has served as Secretary of the SYRIZA Parliamentary Group, member of the Parliamentary Committee of Institutions and Transparency and member of the Standing Parliamentary Committee on Home Affairs, Justice and Public Order.

He has also served as a Regional Councillor in the Region of Attica within the faction “Attiki Cooperation –No to the Memorandum” during the period 2010-2012.

He participated actively in the anti-dictatorship student mass movement as a member of the National Technical University Students’ Struggle Committees. He was the Vice –President of the first post dictatorship Central Council of the National Students Union of Greece (EFEE), which emerged from the 1975 National Council.

He has been a member of the Central Committee of SYRIZA, since the party was founded.

He was the Secretary of the Central Council of the Greek Communist Youth -Rigas Feraios (1980-1985) and of the Union of the youth of the Communist Party of Greece (Interior), as well as a Member of its Central Committee and of the Secretariat until 1986. Until 1993, he was a Member of the Political Secretariat of The Coalition of Left, of Movements and Ecology (SYN) and its Press Representative for the period 2000-2006.

He is married, with three children
